The name Groupe X-Crise refers to a French technocratic movement that former students of the École Polytechnique (nicknamed "X") formed in 1931. The organisations promoted economic planification, which the Vichy government implemented to some degree. Some members opposed the Vichy government and later served on the postwar French government.
