Gene Wolfe

Gene Wolfe was an influential American science fiction writer. He was a veteran of the Korean War, and, subsequently, spent most of his life as a full time editor of technical journals, in engineering. However, he routinely spent an hour working on his science fiction stories, prior to going to work.
