In Greek mythology, it was a location and site for the famous oracle of the god Apollo, where a priestess would take questions from people who wanted advice on a wide variety of topics and issues, and would impart the wisdom of Apollo, often with cryptic and ambiguous messages which were easily misinterpreted. Today, it is an archaeological site as well as a town in Greece near Mount Parnassus. The site was a common meeting place for Greeks from different city-states, and it had competitive games which were the precursors to the Olympic Games. The site was mentioned in the Homeric Hymn to Delphic Apollo.
