Defrost means to slowly bring frozen food to a ready-to-cook state. Food is normally placed in the refrigerator where it is allowed to thaw during the defrosting process. Food can also be defrosted by submerging the item under cold water or by using a microwave oven. Most microwave ovens feature a defrost cycle.
