The U.S. Army defines combat arms as those branches of service with the mission of making direct contact with enemy forces and defeating them with fire and maneuver. Included in the definition are infantry, armor (military branch), artillery, Army aviation, combat engineer, air defense artillery, and U.S. Army Special Forces.
