Carfentanil [r]: Probably first developed for veterinary use, an exceptionally potent, weight-for-weight, fentanyl derivative that may have been used, in aerosolized form possibly mixed with halothane; as an incapacitant in the Moscow theater hostage crisis; a number of deaths were associated with it because emergency medical personnel did not know its composition or treatment [e]
