Bupropion is a medication that is "a unicyclic, aminoketone antidepressant. The mechanism of its therapeutic actions is not well understood, but it does appear to block dopamine uptake. The hydrochloride is available as an aid to smoking cessation treatment."[1]

History

In the United States, it was approved with a New Drug Application (NDA) by the FDA in 1985.[2] A generic version was approved with a Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) in 1999.[3]
