The Anti-Comintern Pact was a 1936 treaty[1] between Nazi Germany and the Empire of Japan, not specifically of mutual defense against the Soviet Union, but of the ostensibly independent Communist International (Comintern).

Delicate balancing would be needed when this interacted with the Molotov-Ribbetrop Pact of nonaggression between German and the Soviet Union (1940), and the Soviet-Japanese Neutrality Pact (1941).
