Ambush

An ambush is a short-duration combat, differing from a raid planned and positioned so that the enemy will move into its killing zone, rather than having the ambushing force move toward the enemy. If the ambushed force is too strong, the ambushers have a preplanned retreat. They may put secondary ambushes along their path of retreat, or harassing techniques such as placing landmines or snipers.
While they are most commonly conducted by land forces, air and sea forces also may be involved.
