A pair of glands located at the cranial pole of each of the two [[kidney][s. Each adrenal gland is composed of two distinct endocrine tissues with separate embryonic origins, the adrenal cortex producing glucocorticoids and mineralocorticoids and the adrenal medulla producing neurotransmitters.
