Thomas Andrew Bailey (December 14, 1902 --July 26, 1983) was a professor of US History at Stanford University. He was also a visiting professor at Harvard, Cornell, Johns Hopkins, and others. The Organization of American Historians elected Bailey its president in 1968. His main area of specialty was diplomatic history. He also wrote The American Pageant, which was, for a time, a very popular US history textbook. He is remembered mostly for his witty style.
