Welcome Page

Welcome, new editor! We're very glad you've joined us. Here are pointers for a quick start. Also, when you get a chance, please read The Editor Role. You can look at Getting Started for other helpful introductory pages. It is essential for you as an editor to join the Citizendium-Editors mailing list in order to stay abreast of editor-related issues. If you wish, just ask me to create a "personal sandbox" for you where you can test out editing and writing articles. If you need help to get going, it is a good idea to join our discussion forums. That's where we discuss policy, proposals or technical problems. You can ask any constable for help, too. Just put a note on their "talk" page. Again, welcome and thank you! We appreciate your willingness to share your expertise, and we hope to see you begin actively editing and contributing to Citizendium. Milton Beychok 21:44, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

Hello Milton and thank you for the welcome message and instructions on getting started. This is very exciting. Will you be kind enough to assist me in setting up a sandbox? Thank you User:Sam Nazari

A personal welcome to a new Engineering editor

As a fellow Engineering editor, I just want to extend a warm personal welcome to you. If I can be of any help to you, please let me know. Milton Beychok 21:48, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

Let me also welcome you, as another Engineering editor. Your radar background certainly showed up on my radar; the radar article definitely needs work. Electronic warfare, I suspect, is in much better shape, and I'd welcome collaboration in getting it Approval ready. Howard C. Berkowitz 22:06, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
Thank you, Howard, for the warm welcome. I will do my best to contribute to the radar article and much much more. Very exciting project! Sam Nazari

You now have a personal sandbox

Sam, at the upper left hand corner of your user page is a blue link labeled "My sandbox". Just click on that and it takes you to your sandbox. A few other helpful (hopefully) comments:

  • Read the blue banner at the top of the edit page for this Talk page and read the explanation about indenting . When you create a new comment with a new header, you need not indent your posting. The first response posting should be indented by placing a single colon, : , at the front of the posting. The next responder, you or anyone else, uses 2 colons, :: , to indent and the third responder uses 3 colons, ::: , and so forth. I am correcting the indenting on this page at this time. You can look at the edit page to see what I did.
  • Also on that blue banner, it tells you that postings should be signed and dated by simply typing 4 tildes, ~~~~, at the end of your posting. Our software will then automatically sign your name and date it for you ... so all you have to do is type the 4 tildes.
  • Don't forget to expand your biography quite a bit. If you don't feel comfortable on how to do that, send me the expanded biography as a Microsoft Word document and I will place it on your user page for you. Regards and have fun. Milton Beychok 02:19, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

Questionnaire

You may have been too busy to deal with the questionnaire that we sent to you (by e mail ) last Tuesday - or you may not wish to complete it . Either way, it would help us to plan our work if you would indicate below whether you intend to complete it.

There is a copy of the questionnaire at user:Nick_Gardner_/Sandbox

Returning to Citizendium: an update on the project and how to get involved

Hello - some time ago you became part of the Citizendium project, but we haven't seen you around for a while. Perhaps you'd like to update your public biography or check on the progress of any pages you've edited so far.

Citizendium now has 16,469 articles, with 0 approved by specialist Editors such as yourself, but our contributor numbers require a boost. We have an initiative called 'Eduzendium' that brings in students enrolled on university courses to write articles for credit, but we still need more Editors across the community to write, discuss and approve material. There are some developed Engineering articles that could be improved and approved, and some high-priority Applied Sciences articles that we don't have yet. You can also create new articles via this guide, and contribute to some Engineering pages that have been recently edited - or to any others on Citizendium, since you're a general Author as well as a specialist Editor. You may like to contribute to discussions in the forums, and might consider running for an elected position on the Management and Editorial Councils that oversee the project.

If you have any questions, let me know via my Talk page or by leaving a message below this one. Thank you for signing up and reading this update; I hope that you will look in on our community soon. John Stephenson 15:25, 30 October 2011 (UTC)
