Worked on research in fluid dynamics, mainly turbulence and experimental techniques, at National Physical Laboratory (England) 1957-1969; Department of Aeronautics, Imperial College, London University 1969-1988; Stanford University (Mechanical Engineering Dept. and Aeronautics and Astronautics Dept.) 1988 to date (Emeritus 1995). "Private" interests: history and literature of the ancient world, particularly Greece and Rome; and the English language.
