Please note: In a previous edit in the Metal Gear Solid article, I removed information that I had previously added about the other games in the series, replacing it with Template:Metal Gear series. The content that I removed may be useful in future when articles about these games are created. Below is the content that I removed. This is NOT a draft for the Metal Gear Solid article.

Rereleases

The success of Metal Gear Solid on the PlayStation sparked the production of several remakes of the game: an expanded release on PC, an expansion pack for PlayStation, and even a movie.

Metal Gear Solid: Integral / Metal Gear Solid: Special Missions

Integral was a release of Metal Gear Solid for the PC. The game introduced a "Very Easy" difficulty setting for the main game as well as a photography mode, but the most notable improvement was the inclusion of a disc containing 300 VR missions [1]. Although it was only released on the PC in Japan, it was transferred to PlayStation as an expansion pack for the original game in the US and UK. In the US, it was named Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions [2] and it in UK, it was named Metal Gear Solid: Special Missions [3].

Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes

Twin Snakes is a remake of the original game, but for GameCube featuring much improved graphics. Snake was also given new abilities, which he had in Metal Gear Solid 2, including being able to hang from ledges and shooting from first person view. The cutscenes and audio were re-written in many places[4].

Metal Gear Solid: The Movie (tentative title)

Although a movie has not yet been released, its development has been confirmed: Hideo Kojima announced on his broadcast, named Hide-Chan radio, that Metal Gear Solid will be made into a movie. [5] Since then, it has been confirmed that Sony and Konami will be producing the film, and it will be directed Kojima, the creator of the Metal Gear series [6]. However, Kojima, after being asked how close the movie would be to the game, said: "Things one can express in a game are different of those in a movie. It would have to be a very different script, almost a different story." [7]

Position in the series

MGS was the sequel to Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake: two NES game that started the stealth genre of gaming [2]. The success of this game inevitably caused the development of several sequels.

Metal Gear Solid 2

See Metal Gear Solid 2 for more information

Metal Gear Solid 2 was a sequel to MGS originally released on PlayStation 2, and later ported to Xbox. Improvements included superior graphics and the ability to shoot in first-person view. Two versions were released: the original Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and an extended version named Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance, which was released later. Additions in Substance were "Snake Tales" (extra storylines using the same environments as the main game) as well as VR missions. The game received mixed reviews: the gameplay was praised, although criticisms included the long cutscenes and the fact that the player played most of the game as a new character named Raiden, instead of the more popular Solid Snake.

Metal Gear Solid 3

See Metal Gear Solid 3 for more information

Metal Gear Solid 3 also had 2 versions: the original Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and an extended version: Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence. The game was set before other Metal Gear games, thus the radar system used was not available, as it was not invented at this time. Subsistence featured a different camera view that allowed the player to see further ahead, as Snake Eater's overhead viewpoint was criticised.

Metal Gear Solid 4

See Metal Gear Solid 4 for more information

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is the yet to be released sequel to MGS3. A release date has not yet been officially announced.
