Studied architecture at the Technical University of Norway 1965-70. Doctor of architecture (dr. ing.) from the Oslo School of Architecture and Design, 2001. Thesis: "Byen bytter byggeskikk. Christiania 1624-1814. (On the verncular building traditions of Oslo) Emloyment: Assistant teacher of architectural history, Technical University of Norway, 1970-72. Conservation officer, City of Oslo Office of architectural preservation, 1972-77. Secretary general, Fortidsminneforeningen (Norw. Society for the preservation of cultural monuments) 1977-79. Head of department, Riksantikvaren (Central Office of Historic Monuments), 1977-83. Chief curator, Norsk Folkemuseum (Norw. Museum of Cultural History), 1983-2002. Museum director, Oslo Bymuseum (City Museum of Oslo), 2002-2005. Senior adviser, Oslo Museum, 2006- Publications: Numerous contributions to books and periodical, mostly in Norwegian. Some articles in English and German in the Conference reports of the European Association of Open Air Museums. Article in the Encyclopédie des Métiers, Volume: L’Art du couvreur. "Les couvertures en bois de Norvège". Paris, 1989. Presently writing a book on the Frogner Manor in Oslo. Editor of the Norwegian web-based encyclopedia "Store norske leksikon".
