My bio is at my website, www.coachingthejourney.com. I have a PhD. in modern European history, have published widely including books and in The New Yorker. I am currently a life coach and writing. My interests are in world history, politics, anthropology. I was retrained as an urban ethnographer by Erving Goffman. I am an amateur astronomer with an informed interest in ethology, human evolution, psychology, and religion. An amusing anecdote: in 1967 I was appointed to the visiting committee of Widener Library, the first graduate student to be appointed. The question of the day was how to handle the profound change the library was facing having decided it could no longer be a "library of record" for English, that is it collected every book published in English. When I was permitted to speak, I suggested they consider putting the entire library on computers which would make everything available to everyone! There was complete silence until finally, the Chairman, spoke. "But Mr. Rubinstein, then there would be no need for Widener, would there?" Pathetic of course; I was not invited back.
