The common name swamp adder has been used to refer to several different species of venomous snakes:
- Proatheris superciliaris - a small viper found in East Africa.
- Bungarus fasciatus - an elapid, usually referred to as the banded krait, found in India and South-East Asia.
The name was presumably used to refer to the elapid in Arthur Conan Doyle's "The Adventure of the Speckled Band".
