name

These mechanisms are called "lift locks", "ship lifts", and "boat lifts". I used "lift lock" as the base name because both "ship lift" and "boat lift" have other meanings.

Ship lifts are also used in shipyards.

A boat lift is also used as the name of an evacuation by smaller vessels.

I've used the local names of the mechanisms when referring to specific instances.
