The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) is a non-governmental, non-profit organization that coordinates and accredits the diverse standards developing organizations (SDOs), within the private and public sectors of the United States, that voluntarily develop technical standards for a wide range of materials, products, systems and services. ANSI itself does not develop any standards.
ANSI is headquartered in Washington, D.C. and also maintains an office in New York city. As of the end of 2006, ANSI had accredited about 200 SDOs and there were more than 10,000 ANSI standards.
