Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD), is characterized by extreme focus on oneself. It is a maladaptive, rigid, and persistent condition that may influence significant interpersonal distress, as well as social impairment . The term was first used by Heinz Kohut [1] and core pathology acknowledged in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.

NPD falls within the B cluster of personality disorders, along with Borderline personality disorder , Histrionic personality disorder and Antisocial personality disorder.
