Sunshine is a 2007 British science fiction film directed by Danny Boyle. It is notable as one of very few films to directly deal with humanity's relationship with the sun, our nearest star. Sunshine features Cillian Murphy and Michelle Yeoh among its small cast, who portray the crew of a spaceship sent to reignite the dying sun with a nuclear weapon as the Earth of the year 2057 slowly freezes. Particle physicist Dr Bryan Cox was involved with the film as an advisor on the hard science elements; the story itself includes nods to previous science fiction films such as 2001: A Space Odyssey and Alien.
