Mobile genetic elements

Mobile genetic elements (MGE) are a type of DNA that can move around within the genome. They include:

• Transposons
  • Retrotransposons
  • DNA transposons
  • Insertion sequences
• Plasmids
• Bacteriophage elements, like Mu which integrates randomly into the genome
• Group II introns
