I am an archaeologist and archaeobotanist, who teaches at the Institute of Archaeology, University College London (www.ucl.ac.uk/archaeology). I am activer in fieldwork and laboratory analyses (on archaeological plants remains) from ancient sites in China, India, Sri Lanka, Sudan, and to a lesser extent various other countries in Africa and Asia. Much of my research is focused on the plant domestications, and the origins and development of early agriculture. I grew up in San Francisco, California, did a BA in Anthropology and Organismal Biology at Yale University, followed by a M.Phil and PhD at Cambridge University, where my PhD was on the "Emergence of Agricultural Societies in South India." I have been faculty at University College London since 2000.
