Currently a programmer, system administrator and webmaster for the Ohio State University, Doug has programmed scientific applications in Java (Standard and Enterprise Editions), Perl, C, C++, and (long ago) in Fortran and NewtonScript. He has also taught robotics at Ohio State and digital electronics and programming at DeVry.

Doug holds a Masters in Electrical Engineering from Ohio State; his Master's thesis was "Three-Legged Robots: Gait, Kinematics, Dynamics & Simulation". He also holds a B.A. in Physics from Reed College. His Bachelor's thesis was “Tethers for Space Propulsion Without Reaction Mass”.

Doug also builds and sails replicas of Viking boats, and is a founding trustee of Viking Age Vessels. He is a former President of the Oregon L-5 Society.
