Humanism is a group of ethical theories that place the human being at the center of our moral concern. It also refers to a literary and scholarly movement during the Renaissance led by scholars like Erasmus. Core beliefs include faith in progress, in the power of human intellect, and in the need to be released from religious authority. The founding belief of Humanism is that "man is the maker of all things"[1]
