Applied arts

Applied arts are the design and decoration of practical items to make them aesthetically pleasing as well as merely functional. This suggests a clear contrast with the fine arts which are concerned with the non-practical, although the two concepts are interactive. Among the types of applied art are calligraphy, graphic design, and interior design.
