The term nuclear reaction encompasses the various reactions that involve the nuclei of atoms, including radioactivity, nuclear fission and nuclear fusion. Radioactivity includes both the gain of neutrons changing the mass of the nucleus, and radioactive decay, where it emits particles or radiation, with or without fission.
