In Greek mythology, Thetis is a sea nymph who was the mother of Achilles. In the Iliad, Achilles appeals to the story that she rescued Zeus by bringing Briareus to rescue him when he was bound by other Olympian gods. Achilles asks her to use her influence with Zeus to bring dishonour to the Greeks until they recognise his worth. She is successful in this.
