According to the March/April 2009 issue of BBC Knowledge Magazine, "The city [of Hong Kong] has an average of 6200 people per square kilometer [16062 people per square mile], the second highest population density in the world after Monaco. Globally, the average is 48 people per square kilometer [124 people per square mile]." By square kilometer or square mile, the density of Hong Kong is approximately 129 times the global average.
