Be sure to stay abreast of events via the Citizendium-L (broadcast) mailing list (do join!) and the blog. Please also join the workgroup mailing list(s) that concern your particular interests. You can test out editing in the sandbox if you'd like. If you need help to get going, the forums is one option. That's also where we discuss policy and proposals. I am happy to welcome you as a new editor in the Earth Sciences Workgroup. I hope you will enjoy the environment and start contributing soon.
There is indeed something you can do already. I'd like you to take a look to Fossilization. We are kind-of approving it, though the process is getting slow. I understand it is not exactly your field, so I am not asking you to sign for approval (there will be other editors for that if you want to step back from this responsability). However, I believe you can put an expert eye on the text and offer significant comments and/or edits.
