J.D. Simpson teaches mythology, American literature, and Honors/Pre-AP junior English in a public high school in Southwestern Ohio. Prior to becoming a teacher, Simpson was a working journalist, writing and editing for newspapers in Texas and in Ohio. He holds an MAT in English from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
Simpson is an unpublished poet -- a fact that has not dissuaded him from writing poetry. He has written for publication in the professional journal of the Ohio Council of Teachers of English Language Arts (OCTELA). In recent years he has been a co-presenter at the NCTE (National Council of Teachers of English) conventions in Nashville (2006: Prose techniques in the public classroom) and in Indianapolis (2004: Students Writing Poetry), and at the OCTELA convention in Columbus, Ohio (2005: Using multigenre in research writing).
In addition to education, Simpson's interests include Twentieth Century poetry, culture and art, mythology, and jazz.

You can test out editing in the sandbox if you'd like. If you need help to get going, the forum is one option. That's also where we discuss policy and proposals. You can ask any user or the editors for help, too. Just put a note on their "talk" page. Again, welcome and have fun!
