You see, I think the history concerning the Scopes trial is vital. It really explains why a whole group of people got convinced that it was Darwin that killed God in their culture- when I say culture, I mean general culture in the village and school. There may have been similar events in other parts of the world, but this really was a public schism and it expalins why ID and young earth creationism are so focused on evolution. Logically, it would be the geologists and astrophysicists that people who believe in young earth creationism would most want to discredit- it was them who convinced the educated people of the world that the Earth and Universe were on a whole different time scale than believed previously. Without the geologists coming up with that time scale, Darwin's natural selection can't be taken seriously as a means for origin of species. It also explains why there is a conviction that if only Darwin could be shouted down then everybody would believe like they used to- before the Scopes trial. I thibnk it's important.
