I have a B.Sc. in Applied Physics from Dublin City University. I attempted to get a PhD in Astrophysics from Galway University, but failed (mainly for unfortunate personal reasons). I've spent most of my career programming computers.
I've been interested in astronomy since a young age. I'm a founder member of The Ecliptomaniacs - http://www.ecliptomaniacs.com/ - a bunch of Irish people who travel the world chasing total solar eclipses. I'm particularly interested in where astronomy meets computers - I've written software to calculate the circumstances of eclipses for the NASA eclipse web site (http://sunearth.gsfc.nasa.gov/eclipse/JSEX/JSEX-index.html), and for mobile phones (http://www.ecliptomaniacs.com/resources/j2me/index.htm).
My personal website is http://www.chris.obyrne.com/, though I don't update it as often as I should!
