I am currently tenured professor of Communication Arts at Bethany College, Lindsborg, Kansas. An institution founded by Swedish immigrants is supportive of my research interests: Swedish American joking and the image of the Swedish American in Hollywood films from 1918 to 1970 - with a few forays beyond.
I hold advanced degrees in Theology, Communication and Theatre. My doctoral research was in the work of August Strindberg, Sweden's foremost dramatist. Prior to my academic career - which began in 1998 - I served as a Lutheran Pastor in the ELCA and in its predecessor church body the LCA. I served the church in South Carolina, Tennessee and my home town of Chicago. I've taught at two Lutheran institutions, St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN and Bethany in Lindsborg, KS. In addition, I taught for three years at Sterling College, Sterling, KS.
Born and raised in Chicago, my father was a Swedish immigrant, my mother a native of Chicago.
