Finding a replacement
This CC-licensed image could replace Image:Scarborough-castle-barbican.jpg. We might also find even freer images we could use. Kjetil Ree 14:24, 24 August 2007 (CDT)
- Pretty dull, though, isn't it? I changed it because mine was taken on a sunny day. Plus, Wikipedia can't thief it (the way they have with others). John Stephenson 04:38, 25 August 2007 (CDT)
If you license this picture under cc-nc, WP will not use it. R. Versuri (Talk) 08:15, 25 August 2007 (CDT)
- That's true. Whenever one wants to disallow the copying, all they have to do is license an image such that it disallows either commercial use or derivatives--or both for double measure. The one at Flickr disallows both. In terms of Creative Commons licenses, any one with nc or nd will prevent WP from using it. Another option is {{Bypermission-reuse}}, and on the permission page, stipulate that anyone may use it "for non-profit educational use only", effectively the equivalent of a CC-nc. —Stephen Ewen (Talk) 14:55, 25 August 2007 (CDT)
- OK. To keep WP off this image and another I've put them under a Creative Commons licence. And as an aside, why doesn't WP allow these nc/nd licences when we do? John Stephenson 11:13, 26 August 2007 (CDT)
- The Wikipedia licensing policy is defined by the Definition of Free Cultural Works. --Kjetil Ree 13:42, 26 August 2007 (CDT)
WP accept only images that allow both derivatives and commercial usages. We accept any type of free images. R. Versuri (Talk) 11:58, 26 August 2007 (CDT)

- Which is why, overall, the images displayed in Citizendium articles are already superior than those in WP articles. Very, very, very few photographers will release their best photos under a commercial-allowable license. —Stephen Ewen (Talk) 12:02, 1 September 2007 (CDT)
