The Wikipedia article on civil society contained reference to a "commercial state". This stub is pieced together to support and elaborate on that usage. Comments on the appropriateness of this item would be welcome. Colleagues (mostly in Europe) use this term to describe the U.S., but I am not aware of any published citations to support its use.
