The Free State of Thuringia (German: Freistaat Thüringen) is located in central Germany. It has an area of 16,200 square kilometers (6,254.9 sq mi) and 2.33 million inhabitants. Thuringia is one of sixteen Bundesländer (federal states) in Germany.
The capital is Erfurt with a population of 202,619 (2006).
