Projeto TAMAR (TAMAR Project, short from the the Portuguese TArtaruga MARinha, Sea Turtle) is a marine conservation project in Brazil. The project was founded in the early 1980s by the Instituto Brasileiro de Desenvolvimento Florestal (IBDF) and later incorporated in the Instituto de Meio Ambiente e Recursos Naturais Renováveis (IBAMA) and dealt with the conservation of marine life and endengared marine species.
This initiative, alongside other initiative in Brazil, paved the way to the creation of several special national parks and conservation centres, especially in north-eastern Brazil. The project has more than 20 research stations along the Brazilian coasts and it is founded mainly by Petrobras, the Brazilian oil company owned by the state of Brazil.
