All mammals (which humans are) have 7 vertebrate in the neck area. This is commonly referred to as C 1-7. Most people consider the coccyx area (tailbone) as separate vertebrate but it can be considered as a single fused area too. I made a slight edit to reflect the fact concerning the Cervical area.
