The 2020 Summer Olympics or Games of the XXXII Olympiad is a forthcoming international sporting event that will take place in Tokyo, Japan that year. The city will also host the XVI Paralympic Games.

Tokyo was selected as host city in September 2013, beating Istanbul and Madrid in three rounds of voting by the International Olympic Committee in Buenos Aires, Argentina. In the first round of voting, Madrid and Istanbul tied for second position, so a second vote was required to decide which city would face top-placed Tokyo. The final round saw Tokyo take a 60-36 majority of votes to secure the bid. The city previously held the Summer Games in 1964, and was the original choice for the 1940 Games before World War II intervened.[1]
