Welcome!
Welcome to the Citizendium! We hope you will contribute boldly and well. Here are pointers for a quick start. You'll probably want to know how to get started as an author. Just look at CZ:Getting Started for other helpful "startup" links, and CZ:Home for the top menu of community pages. Be sure to stay abreast of events via the Citizendium-L (broadcast) mailing list (do join!) and the blog. Please also join the workgroup mailing list(s) that concern your particular interests. You can test out editing in the sandbox if you'd like. If you need help to get going, the forums is one option. That's also where we discuss policy and proposals. You can ask any constable for help, too. Me, for instance! Just put a note on their "talk" page. Again, welcome and have fun! D. Matt Innis 15:09, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
Some ideas for contributions
Hi Adrian, welcome aboard CZ. Matt has already given you some hints as to how things work here in general, and I wish to add some more practical hints on what possibilities you have to contribute. For a start, I just took some of the keywords from the information you supplied upon registration, and display below the current state of related CZ articles (for icon documentation, see Template:Rpl/Doc):
- Computer science: The study of how computers work, and the algorithms, data structures and design principles used in their operation and programming. [e]
- Programming language: A formal language specification, and programs for translating the formal language to machine code. [e]
- Unix: A computer operating system originally conceived and developed by a group of researchers as an unofficial project while they were working at AT&T's Bell Laboratories. [e]
- Tux: The name of the penguin, official logo and cartoon mascot for the Linux computer operating system. [e]
- Science: The organized body of knowledge based on non–trivial refutable concepts that can be verified or rejected on the base of observation and experimentation [e]
- Foreign language: A language which is associated with another country or culture and is rarely or never used in a speaker's own community; usually taught in classrooms or through self-study, for practical purposes such as travel or doing business, or for pleasure. [e]
- Italian language: A Romance language spoken in Italy and Switzerland. [e]
- Romanian language: A Romance language spoken in southeastern Europe, mainly in Romania and Moldova. [e]
- English language: A West Germanic language widely spoken in the United Kingdom, its territories and dependencies, Commonwealth countries and former colonial outposts of the British Empire; has developed the status of a global language. [e]
- Romania: South-east European republic (population c. 22.2 million; capital Bucharest) on the western shore of the Black Sea, and divided by the arc of the Carpathian Mountains, which enclose the Transylvanian basin in the north-west; borders Ukraine, Moldavia, Hungary, Serbia and Bulgaria. [e]
In order to find articles dealing with similar topics, it's also worth looking at the Related Article subpages of such an article.
Finally, in case you are involved in homework assignments, please consider doing so via Eduzendium articles.
