Dr.Raman Chandrasekar (koreanchandru) specializes in the field of Molecular Biology and Applied Biotechnology of Insects. He is very much interested in animal photography, but he has an amateur interest in entomology. His main interest is in identifying physiological important proteins, genes and their metamorphosis, reproduction. Recently, he was evaluating the nutritional and hormonal effects on the storage protein gene (SP) and silk gene expression in the silkworm Bombyx mori. Some of his results have recently launched a “Lab to Land Programme”, with a view of practical contribution to sericulture for maximizing economic traits of economically important insect B.mori (Chandrasekar et al., 2007).

Currently he working on interdisciplinary research in molecular characterization of various receptors involved in the uptake of some of the vital proteins like storage protein (SP) and vitellogenin (Vg) yolk protein, Ferritin, ApoLp-III in the lepidopteran pests.

From this he gained the knoweldge in the field of gene expression, localization, molecular biology and bioinformatics from insects (Amsacta albistriga, Bombyx mori, Spodoptera litura, Hyphantira cunea) used as a good model system to understand the basic and modern biology of science.

He hold a M.Sc., in Zoology and Ph.D. (Dec.2007) in Biotechnology from Bharathidasan University. He worked in DST project entitled “Expression and sequestration of storage protein 1 (SP1) in differentiated fat body tissues of groundnut pest, Amsacta albistriga Walk” and carried out part of the Ph.D work on molecular localization of SP1 protein at the Division of Life Science, Gyeongsang National University (GSNU), South Korea. He also carried out a research project entitled “Isolation of gene for apolipophorin-III and its new function in Hyphantria cuena Drury” to his credit. This was sponsored by BK21 programme, under the guidance of Prof. Seo Sook Jae, GSNU, Jinju, South Korea during his pre-doctoral program. He has published more than 15 research papers, contributed book chapters, and attended many national and international conferences for his scientific discussion. He has been conferred various awards and fellowship for his achievement and contribution.
