Ukrainian is an East Slavic language closely related to Russian, Polish, and Belarusian.

The Cyrillic alphabet (based on the early Greek alphabet) is used for written Ukrainian.

Ukrainian is spoken by about 46 million people worldwide, both in Ukraine and in emigre communities in the United States, Canada, Poland, and elsewhere.
