I graduated from the University of Rochester (B.A.) in 1971, and Boston University (M.F.A.) in 1974. I studied painting with James Weeks and Philip Guston and painting materials with Reed Kay. I have been teaching painting, drawing, and the materials of painting, at UNC Greensboro since 1976, where I am an Associate Professor. I am a member of ASTM International, and chair of the subcommittee on artists' paints (ASTM D01.57). I am the author of "The Painter's Handbook" (2nd ed., illustrated and revised. New York: Watson-Guptill Publications, 2006), Co-Director of the Art Materials Information and Education Network, and Director of Materials Research at the Intermuseum Conservation Association in Cleveland, OH. | |||
