This is another one of John Leach's shocking proposed deletions.

Should this article be kept or deleted?

This is another one of John Leach's shocking proposed deletions.

Mr Leach was on record asserting that the Citizendium should have just one single article on the Taliban, all Taliban, all people accused of association with the Taliban, and all of its victims. He never really tried to explain this assertion, asserting it as if it were obvious.

I think it is nonsense. Muttawakil was one of the most important members of the Taliban.

  1. He was a cabinet member, Minister of Foreign Affairs...
  2. More importantly the Taliban was not a monolith, and he was recognized as the leader of the Peace faction. In the fall of 2001, he argued strongly that the Taliban should turn Osama bin Laden over to the Americans, thus preventing a US invasion.
  3. In July of 2001, two months before al Qaeda's attack on the USA, he tried to inform US authorities that al Qaeda was planning a big attack. This is not widely known, because it was so embarrassing. But the Bush administration received, and ignored, a warning of the attack.

So, I don't think there is any question that this article should not be deleted.

Mr Leach made snap decisions about deletion. I don't think he spent even one minute considering the articles he proposed deleting. There is strong circumstantial evidence that he never conducted a web search on the article's underlying topics. George Swan (talk) 00:24, 31 July 2024 (CDT)
