Bangor is a town in County Down, situated about fifteen miles from Northern Ireland's capitol city, Belfast.

History

Founded in 555 AD, Bangor (from the Irish Gaelic "Beannchor") was an important centre of learning and Christianity. From there and the close-by Movilla (now Newtownards), Christian scholars travelled throughout Europe, spreading Christianity.
