I am a neuroscientist working in the United States. I was born and raised in England. In 1997 I gained a B.Sc. in Biological Sciences with honours in Neuroscience at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland. Following my undergraduate studies I gained a Ph.D. in neurophysiology, also at the University of Edinburgh in 2001. I then moved to the U.S. to undertake post-doctoral research, first at the University of Tennessee in Memphis and then at Northwestern University in Chicago. My research has focussed on the neurophysiology of the nuclei that make up the basal ganglia, particularly the subthalamic nucleus and the substantia nigra.
