Vipera Avicennae is a scientific name proposed by Jan in 1859. It was used to describe a venomous viper found in the deserts of North Africa and the Middle East. However, this name has long since been considered a synonym of the following two species:[1]
- Cerastes cerastes - (Linnaeus, 1758) - Desert horned viper.
- Cerastes vipera - (Linnaeus, 1758) - Sahara sand viper.
