A Mozartkugel (Mozart ball) or, with its full name, an Original Salzburger Mozartkugel is a chocolate confect invented in 1890—and initially called Mozartbonbon—by the confectioner Paul Fürst in Salzburg, the town where Mozart was born. It soon became famous and won a gold medal at the 1905 exhibition in Paris. It is still produced according the original recipe and method at the family-owned (now, in the fourth generation, by Norbert Fürst, the great-grandson of the founder) Cafe-Konditorei Fürst (founded 1884) in Salzburg.
The original Mozartkugel is wrapped in a silver foil with a portrait of Mozart drawn in blue. Copies of the confect, also called Mozartkugel are produced and sold by various other producers.
