Angled deck [r]: A critical modification to the design of aircraft carrier flight decks, in which part of the flight deck was slightly offset from the centerline of the vessel; aircraft, especially jets, could accelerate after a missed landing and safely get airborne, rather than crash into a barricade or parked aircraft
